Ministry of Sports Subsidizes Construction of Southern Taiwan’s First International-Standard Shooting Range Groundbreaking Ceremony Held for Guanmiao Shooting LOHAS Sports Center On March 16
To implement the policy vision of “Strengthening Taiwan Through Sports,” and to improve grassroots competitive sports facilities while promoting sports for all, Minister of Sports Lee Yang attended the groundbreaking and blessing ceremony on March 16 for “Tainan City Guanmiao Shooting LOHAS Sports Center New Construction Project.” The event marked a milestone for what will become the first standard shooting range in southern Taiwan. The total project budget is approximately NT$190 million, of which the Ministry of Sports (MOS) has approved a subsidy of NT$100 million. The project is expected to be completed by September, 2027. Upon completion, it will become the first modern shooting competition and training facility in southern Taiwan that meets the standards of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF).
Minister Lee stated that while the north has the Gongxi Shooting Range, the addition of the Guanmiao Shooting LOHAS Sports Center in the south will help balance regional development and improve Taiwan’s overall sports environment. In the future, the facility will not only serve as a training base for local athletes in Tainan, but will also be capable of hosting national competitions and international invitational events, enhancing Taiwan’s overall competitive strength and international profile in shooting sports.
Shooting has long been one of Taiwan’s key medal-winning sports on the international stage. However, the shooting range at the former South District Sports Park in Tainan City has been in use for nearly 50 years; its facilities are outdated and pose safety concerns, making overall upgrades and improvements urgently needed. To provide athletes with a safer, more professional training environment that meets international standards, the MOS and Tainan City Government have jointly promoted a new construction project, selecting the spacious and conveniently accessible Guanmiao Forest Park as the site for the new facility.
In addition to professional 10m, 25m, and 50m shooting ranges, as well as a clay pigeon shooting area, the project incorporates the concept of a “LOHAS Sports Center.” It will include diverse recreational sports spaces for the general public, further enhancing the functionality of the venue and promoting broader public participation in sports.
The MOS will continue to oversee construction quality and progress to ensure the project is completed on schedule and to the required standards. Once finished, the Guanmiao Shooting LOHAS Sports Center will utilize Southern Taiwan’s convenient transportation network and surrounding natural environment to develop into a multifunctional sports facility that integrates competition, training, and recreational experiences, marking a new milestone for shooting sports in Taiwan.
